Located 10 kilometres south of Wollongong on the banks of Lake Illawarra, Port Kembla is a residential and industrial suburb with a thriving port that is considered one of the Illawarra’s key economic assets. Hill 60 (also referred to as Port Kembla Lookout) is Port Kembla’s highest point and overlooks the picturesque Five Islands Nature Reserve, but what’s most attractive about Hill 60 is its place in Australian history. Hill 60 was the site of an underground tunnel system used during World War II for a coastal gun emplacement referred to as Illowra Battery. The tunnels still exist today and can be explored on foot.

Port Kembla’s popular shopping precinct on Wentworth Street is where the locals shop, dine, and delight in the buzzing atmosphere.
