Manjimup.
Famed for its black truffles, Manjimup becomes a hive of activity during Truffle Kerfuffle in June. For such a compact town, there’s a lot of events attracting the community far and wide. Local events include the Manjimup Farmers Market showcasing local produce every Saturday, the Warren Agricultural Show (March), the Manjimup 15,000 Motocross (June) and the Cherry Harmony Festival celebrating the horticultural industry in the region in December.
Given Manjimup’s productive soil, the region is often referred to as the ‘Food Bowl of WA,’ and you could spend days dining and wining your way through the Great Southern, which also encompasses Pemberton, Albany, Denmark and Walpole.
The town was established for its timber in the early 1900s and the Manjimup Timber and Heritage Park in the town centre is a popular spot. Other attractions include the Diamond Tree fire lookout and the picturesque Fonty’s Pool ideal for swimming, picnics or a stay at the onsite caravan park and chalets.
Situated 307km south of Perth, the compact town includes several schools, supermarkets, specialty stores, cafes and parks such as Coronation Park, where weekly markets are held.
