Gordon

Suburb Profile

Overview

Gordon has it all – a vibrant yet genteel community life, beautiful architecture, and easy access to just about anywhere. Locals have a slew of cafés, restaurants, shops and schools at their fingertips, and the natural surrounds add a certain charm and peacefulness to the leafy suburb.

Lifestyle

Gordon gives residents the best of both worlds. It has great cafés, restaurants, shops and green spaces within its borders, and its transport links make commuting to the city or other dining and entertainment hubs like Chatswood a breeze. With its leafy streets, Federation and Californian homes and family-friendly vibe, it’s the kind of suburb that feels like home as soon as you move in.

The shopping village, Gordon Centre, caters to residents’shopping and service needs, and there are plenty of casual and more elegant dining options along the strip. For those with children, Gordon is close to many of Sydney’s best public schools, and frequent bus and train services make it easy to travel to private schools in the area. This, combined with the beautiful bushland of Lane Cove National Park and Garigal National Park, playgrounds, sporting fields and the genteel, neighbourly spirit of the suburb, has made it an attractive spot for families to settle over the years.

On the weekends, the locals make the most of their prime location. You’ll often see them shopping and catching up at the community markets which is held on the second Sunday of each month. The Gordon Markets is a vibrant event that brings the whole community together, and has done so for over 25 years. It has stalls selling clothing, homewares, stationery, books, plants and bric-a-brac. All funds raised are donated to charity.

The Market

There is a reason why Gordon is high on every family’s radar – beautifully restored Federation and Californian bungalows with modern add-ons complete with manicured gardens. A sprinkling of apartments and terrace houses can be found throughout but it’s the freestanding homes that are highly prized. Englin, McIntosh and Moree Streets are among the most popular, thanks to their location and Federation-style homes.
