Googong.

On the road to the Snowy Mountains in country New South Wales, and just shy of the state's border, Googong has long been a rural community with sprawling farmlands. Flanked on one side by Googong Reservoir and the wildlife sanctuary of Googong Foreshore, Googong’s highly sought-after countryside has been garnering a lot of attention of late.

Several new developments are slated for Googong; Fernleigh Park, Little Burra and Mount Campbell Estate, while Googong Township is well underway. Newly laid streets with modern abodes and parklands aplenty are bringing young families into the area. Landscaped gardens and playgrounds keep children entertained, and the cafes popping up in the area are creating a buzzing community feel.

There is a boutique selection of shops servicing the community and while the government makes plans to build two new schools – a public primary school and a public high school – The Anglican School is the local go-to for families. For a wider choice of schools and work opportunities, people commute to nearby Queanbeyan and Canberra. But there is plenty of change in store for Googong as the communities continue to grow and become more established.

Just south of Queanbeyan and within easy reach of Canberra’s many villages, locals have everything they need at their fingertips. The surrounding landscape is stunning, and Googong Foreshore and Reservoir is a much-welcomed sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts, where fishing, kayaking and mountain biking are a favourite past time. The ancient rainforests of Monga National Park are nearby, and locals can either be at the snow or the beach in under two hours.
