Ronnie and Georgia carried off another room win on The Block this week, with their living and dining area awarded joint first place with contenders Tanya and Vito. Ronnie and Georgia’s house is currently listed for sale by Belle Property.

We are loving the pared-back, understated luxe style Ronnie and Georgia have been demonstrating in their house so far, and here we take a deep dive into some of the key elements they have used to win over the judges with this space.

Sophisticated neutral colour palette

At first glance there may be a lot of white around, but a closer look quickly reveals muted, soft tones abounding in the floor, furnishings, and fabrics.

The basis for the neutral colour scheme is the timber herringbone flooring, which harmonises the large space with warm natural tones. The light-coloured wood of the kitchen stools and dining table, along with varying subdued tones in the sofa, rugs and cushions add to the sophisticated yet soothing feel, which is complemented by sheer curtains in a very soft dusky pink.

Eye-catching architectural details

There’s no denying this space has some cracking architectural details. The cathedral-like high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows all lend dramatic impact to this room, along with a sleek, in-built fireplace which makes the space feel warm and cosy and is perfect for a cold winter.

Accent pieces which ‘sing’

The space’s understated luxe feel is complemented by accent pieces which are distinctive without being overpowering.  Falling into this category are the stylish geometric kitchen lights, oblong dining table light and the torchiere floor lamp – eye-catching pieces which also bring warm brass accents in to play.

The military green velvet dining chairs pick up the green tones in the painting by Australian artist Michelle Keighley which hangs alongside, whose colours are also repeated in the sofa cushions and a benchtop vase of olive branches.

Let there be light

Light. You can never have too much of it in a home, and here Ronnie and Georgia’s clever choice of skylights in the cathedral-like roof, along with floor to ceiling windows, maximise light entering the space.

Unusually for a modern home there is a glass door between the living and hallway to the bedrooms. This not only allows light into the hallway, but also provides an acoustic barrier between the home’s sleeping and living zones.

Embracing texture

When it comes to using textures in a neutral colour scheme, you can almost never have too many, and Ronnie and Georgia have embraced this mantra to great effect.

Sitting pride of place atop a woollen rug is the oatmeal boucle sofa, whose fleecy texture promotes relaxation. Cushions in different neutral shades juxtaposed with some stand-out green create interest without causing visual clutter; their softer fabrics in stark contrast to the concrete coffee table - a robust piece which firmly anchors the living area as the heart of the space.

Topping off the textural variety is the scalloped white wall running the length of the living and dining area, which adds visual interest and ramps up the luxe factor.
