Overview

Stylish yet unpretentious, Woolloomooloo is a harbourside suburb that's proud of its working past and renowned for its focus on the arts and a thriving dining scene. The heritage-listed Finger Wharf is now home to award-winning restaurants, bars and hotels. Nestled between the Botanic Gardens, Potts Point and the CBD, Woolloomooloo is the ultimate in inner-city living.

Lifestyle

Perched on the fringe of the city, Woolloomooloo is the king of convenience. For residents, everything is in easy reach – the CBD (just three kilometres away), the Botanic Gardens, and dining and entertainment spots like Darlinghurst, Surry Hills and Potts Point. This harbourside suburb also has a string of upscale and casual restaurants, cocktail bars, chic pubs and art galleries. Its a cultural playground, and locals can often be spotted dining out along the Finger Wharf, catching up over drinks at The Tilbury and Frisco Hotels or checking out art exhibitions and theatre performances. When they want a change of scenery, Bourke and Crown Streets are just around the corner.

The suburb has a strong sense of community and creativity. This is particularly apparent in places like the Juanita Nielsen Community Centre (JNCC), where start-ups aren't just encouraged, they're given a helping hand. It also boasts a state-of-the-art gym as well as indoor and outdoor spaces, and offers fitness classes, creative workshops and children's programs. And thanks to its inner-city location, transport is easy, but who needs it when you can walk, run or cycle into work.

Woolloomooloo residents enjoy the benefits of city-fringe living, and love coming home to a suburb that's stylish and energetic, yet peaceful.

The Market

In Woolloomooloo, living in an apartment or townhouse is the norm. The leafy streets are lined with a mix of historic and contemporary homes, some of which offer views of the harbour or Sydney skyline. The streets closest to the wharf are among the most desirable, as they're close to amenities and just a stone's throw from the city. Nicholson Street, St Mary's Road and Dowling Street are typical of the suburb, and go-to streets for young professionals.
