When it comes to small, seaside towns, Marcoola is one of the Sunshine Coast’s crown jewels. Located just north of the Maroochy River, it’s known for its stretch of sandy beach as well as Mt Coolum National Park. There are three beaches within its borders: Boardwalk Beach, Discovery Beach and Marcoola Beach, whose waves attract surfers from all over the area. All the beaches are dog-friendly and patrolled during summer yet uncrowded, making them even more inviting for the many families who call Marcoola home.
Embracing the year-round warm weather and their scenic surrounds, around here, life is well-spent in outdoors. Swimming and surfing aside, the beaches are ideal for kayaking and coastal walks, while the national park has a number of hiking trails just waiting to be explored. There are parks and playgrounds dotted around the suburb, world-class golf courses minutes away, and a major bike path residents use to sail up and down the coast.
The suburb has a strong community spirit, with the weekly Marcoola Market or the Surfair Beach Hotel being popular social hubs. The town centre boasts a bunch of shops, grocery stores, cafes and restaurants, and there are many more dining and entertainment options in nearby Maroochydoore, Coolum and Noosa.
Marcoola is easily accessible via car and bus, and it’s a short drive to the train stations at Nambour and Yandina. Interstate travel is a breeze thanks to the Sunshine Coast Airport, where flights take off daily to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
