Avoca Beach

Suburb Profile

Overview

A coastal village known for its sparkling sea, laid-back lifestyle, and warm and friendly locals, Avoca Beach is a Central Coast gem brimming with charm and character. It’s not surprising that it attracts families and holidaymakers who want to slow down and soak up the sunshine.

Lifestyle

It may be a holiday hotspot during the summer, but residents enjoy Avoca Beach’s laid-back yet active lifestyle year-round. The beach is the suburb’s beating heart, and on any given day, locals can be spotted swimming in the ocean and the rock pools or vying for the perfect wave. The leafy surrounds boast a children’s playground and dog - friendly areas and the lagoon behind the beach is a popular spot for kayaking, canoeing and boating.

Although a popular summer getaway, Avoca Beach has a strong sense of community that resonates in the monthly Avoca Beachside Markets. Held on the fourth Sunday of every month, the markets feature over 120 stalls that sell everything from art to fresh produce and live music from local musicians.

One of the bigger events on the calendar is the 5 Lands Walk which celebrates the Central Coast’s multiculturalism. It follows the coastline from Macmasters Beach to Terrigal, and involves free events at each of the beaches along the way. The event coincides with the northern migration of the humpback whales.

As for shopping and dining, Avoca Village has a string of cafés, restaurants, shops and grocery stores, and there are bigger complexes in nearby suburbs such as Erina and Terrigal. In recent years, Avoca Beach has become a foodie favourite, attracting people from all over the coast. There’s also a family-run cinema and pub in town – both are local institutions.

The Market

In Avoca Beach, the streets are lined with owner-occupied residences as well as holiday homes. Freestanding houses dominate the suburb, and many sit on large blocks and feature swimming pools and sprawling backyards. Some residents are lucky enough to live right on the beachfront, though there are homes dotted all over the suburb that offer ocean views, such as those on Avoca Drive, Cliff Avenue and Fairscene Crescent. There are many terraces and apartment blocks in the area, and those on Ascot Avenue and Burnet Street are among the most coveted. For families, Avoca Drive is both beautiful and convenient, as it is the main public transport thoroughfare.
