Alexandria

Suburb Profile

Overview

With a blend of working-class ethos and a burgeoning creative scene, Alexandria is fast becoming a dynamic and vibrant neighbourhood with an intriguing edge. Once the home of hardworking factory and shift workers, this inner-city suburb is shedding its industrial past and becoming one of Sydney’s most sought-after addresses.

Lifestyle

Once brimming with industry and warehouses, Alexandria was the epitome of the inner-city industrial suburb. Now she’s switching gears, and this vibrant neighbourhood is becoming one of Sydney’s hottest addresses for creatives and affluent investors.

Shaking off some of its industrial ways, Alexandria has been busy redefining itself, and has attracted some big names to the area from the fashion, design and art scene. Sydneysiders swarm to Alexandria for its vibrant café culture and mouth-watering bakeries, with the Grounds of Alexandria at the helm. Designer brands, boutique showrooms, auction houses and outlet stores sit amidst industrial estates. Also in this dynamic neighbourhood are sporting complexes where you can get your heart rate pumping at indoor rock climbing or trampoline centres.

Sydney Park on Alexandria’s western edge is a much-loved green space that encompasses 40 hectares. It’s popular for its off-leash dog area, multiple playgrounds and cycle paths, which connect to cycle ways throughout Alexandria and beyond to neighbouring suburbs and Sydney’s CBD.

Amidst all this are quiet, tree-lined streets which boast charming Victorian and Art Deco style homes and cottages. Combined with the warehouses that are being converted into private residences and shopfronts you have one funky inner-city suburb.

The Market

Alexandria has been attracting the attention of investors and property developers with prime real estate coming on to the market. As Alexandria continues to emerge from its industrial past, warehouses are being converted and high-rise apartments are shooting up. Head to Alexandria’s northern boundary and the tone shifts to quiet neighbourly streets. Whether it’s Art Deco and Victorian homes or modern abodes, real estate in Alexandria is selling fast.
